About this release
Pearly Queen pair heavy breaks and punchy horns on this Mr Bongo reissue of their 1974 Sound Triangle single. Written by Ray Fernandez of Ray & His Court, Quit Jive’ In places the Miami-based Cuban band’s raw funk sound at the centre of a two-sided 7-inch. Its drums and horns later became part of DJ Shadow’s The Number Song, while the single also appeared in DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist’s Brainfreeze mix. On the reverse, Jungle Walk takes The Rascals’ Buzzy Feiten composition into rock-funk territory, giving the release a second distinct groove rather than an alternate take of the A-side.
