About this release
Ponta De Dois Lados is Sam Nóbrega’s debut album, produced with Pedro Diniz for Freestyle Records. The Recife-born singer, multi-instrumentalist and arranger draws on Brazilian folk song and street culture, combining samba-funk, forró, ijexá and bossa nova with a contemporary songwriting approach. His influences range from João Donato and Marcos Valle to the Manguebeat and Tropicália movements, connecting different periods of Brazilian music within an eight-song programme. Surpreenda-Se opens the record, with the title track, Lábios Lambidos and Mergulhar No Mar among the selections that follow. The album brings Nóbrega’s instrumental work and vocal writing into one full-length set.
