Squid - O Monolith

O Monolith, Squid’s second album, draws on environment, domestic life and invented folklore. Following Bright Green Field, the group keeps its restless approach to experimental rock and post-punk while allowing more warmth and melodic detail into the arrangements. Layered sounds and a questioning, wandering character connect the eight songs, from Swing (In A Dream) and Devil’s Den through Undergrowth and The Blades to the unusually titled closing piece. The record expands the band’s musical vocabulary without settling into a single shape. This Warp edition presents the full album on black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
