About this release
Steve Hernández y Su Orquesta Latinoamericana connects the Palladium-era mambo sound with the developing language of salsa on this 1967 album. Ray Santos’s arrangements and Vitín Avilés’s vocals lead an ensemble of Puerto Rican and New York musicians through boogaloo, descarga, swing and Latin dance rhythms. Bright horns and forceful percussion give the music its drive, while the arrangements leave room for both vocal numbers and instrumental momentum. Rocafort’s edition was transferred from the original master tapes and includes new liner notes by Pablo E. Yglesias, also known as DJ Bongohead, alongside the music.
