Steve Pepe - Arabia Per Delfina

Steve Pepe, the alias of Manuel Cascone, brings six exploratory pieces to Random Numbers on Arabia Per Delfina. The title track filters Arabic influences through a new-wave sensibility, using a solitary synthesiser line to establish the album’s atmosphere. ‘Sospesissimo’ introduces guitar, a gently unsteady groove and touches of jazz and downtempo, before ‘El Pelusa’ turns towards Latin percussion in a tribute to Diego Maradona. The second side shifts between the more inward-looking ‘Carpenter’, the strings and voice of ‘Verso’, and the spacious closing ‘Zima Neta’. It’s a varied record whose recurring textures connect its changes in mood.
