About this release
Stimela's Rewind gathers four recordings from the South African band's 1986 EP, originally issued on Gallo/CBS. Led by guitarist and vocalist Ray Phiri, the group bring their mbaqanga and fusion background into a relaxed blend of boogie, soul and disco. I Hate Telling A Lie builds slowly through elements of jazz-funk, reggae and gospel, while I Love You centres on a bubbling instrumental synthesizer groove. Where Did We Go Wrong and Shaka Doo Ba complete the selection, offering further settings for the band's sound. Mr Bongo's 12-inch reissue preserves all four tracks in their original sequence.
