Teodros Makonnen With His Organ captures an early chapter in Ethiopian electronic music. Also known as Teddy Mak, Makonnen recorded these pieces straight to tape in a single take, using a Yamaha double-deck keyboard at a diplomat's home in Addis Ababa. Originally released on cassette, the recording reworks traditional songs through drum-machine rhythms and hypnotic organ lines.

Made in the early 1980s, it sits at an intriguing meeting point between Ethiopian melody, electronic experimentation and the spacious repetition of minimal music. The modest home-recording setup gives the performances their particular character: direct, resourceful and full of small rhythmic turns. Muzikawi brings this little-heard recording back as a gatefold double LP, with nine tracks spread across four sides.
