About this release
Toni Tornado's Sou Negro and Zeca Do Trombone & Roberto Sax's Coluna Do Meio bring two 1970s Brazilian funk recordings into Mr Bongo's Brazil 45s series. Sou Negro comes from Tornado's 1970 Odeon compacto, drawing on the soul and funk sound that helped shape the Black Rio movement. Coluna Do Meio is taken from Zeca's 1976 collaboration with saxophonist Roberto Sax, with Wilson das Neves contributing percussion. Its wah-wah guitar gives the arrangement a distinctive rhythmic lift. The eighty-sixth Brazil 45s release pairs these contrasting performances on a 7-inch, connecting vocals, horns and percussion across the two selections.
