Matasuna pairs two Atlantic funk recordings on an officially licensed, newly mastered seven-inch. United 8’s Getting Uptown (To Get Down), first released in 1972, combines driving drums and bass with guitar and horn lines. Tony Alvon & The Belairs’ 1969 recording Sexy Coffee Pot occupies the reverse, its rhythm section and brass making it a familiar source for hip-hop sampling and break selections. Bringing the two tracks together gives each its own side, with the new mastering returning attention to the original performances. A direct two-cut selection from Atlantic’s late-1960s and early-1970s funk catalogue.
