About this release
Grotto Sessions 2 continues the collaboration with the Music Maker Relief Foundation begun on the first volume in 2020. Clément, Raphaël and Simon revisit the foundation’s sound archives, creating new instrumental settings for voices drawn from the blues, gospel and rural traditions of the American South.
The selection includes The Goins, Rufus McKenzie, Pat ‘Mother Blues’ Cohen, Big Boy Henry, Neal Pattman, Cora Fluker, Essie Mae Brooks and Etta Baker. Their performances form the centre of this intergenerational project, issued as a limited 180g LP in a gatefold sleeve with a 16-page French-English booklet and photography by Tim Duffy and Simon Arcache.
