About this release
Radio Familia Volume 1 brings four recordings from Ghana and Cape Verde together through Arp Frique’s connections with the musicians he works alongside. Nana Adomako Nyamekye’s Obra Twa Owuo opens with a bass-led highlife groove, followed by Elvis Kwasi Ankomah’s Fa Wokoma Mame. Imilux Star’s Yolanda introduces the syncopated drum-machine sound of the Luxembourg-based Cape Verdean group, before Americo Brito’s C’est Dudu closes the selection. Brito’s song draws on Caribbean kadans and Latin piano patterns, widening the record’s rhythmic range. Released on Colorful World, the twelve-inch traces those musical relationships through the four artists’ distinct approaches.
