About this release
The Original Sound Of Mali 2 explores the meeting of traditional Malian music with funk, soul and blues after independence. Compiled by Florent Mazzoleni and David Buttle, the twelve-track selection includes Rail Band, Ousmane Kouyaté & Ambassadeurs Internationaux, Les Messagers du Mali and Mystère Jazz de Tombouctou. Ngoni-led rhythms sit alongside electric instrumentation, afrobeat and adaptations of American soul, including Tjiwara Band de Kati’s “Midnight Hour”. The recordings trace the varied sounds developed by regional groups and bands working in Bamako’s hotels. This Mr Bongo double LP is housed in a gatefold sleeve and includes an A5 booklet with Mazzoleni’s liner notes.
Format: Double vinyl LP; gatefold sleeve; A5 liner-note booklet
