About this release
Universal Beings brings together Makaya McCraven’s recordings with musicians in New York, Chicago, London and Los Angeles. Released in 2018, the album transforms group improvisations through editing, splicing and post-production, connecting each city’s players within a four-part sequence. Contributors include Brandee Younger, Joel Ross, Tomeka Reid, Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia, Jeff Parker and Anna Butterss. This IA11 edition presents the complete twenty-two-track vinyl programme on two 140g black records, with a heavyweight reverse-board jacket, updated obi and printed poly-lined inner sleeves. A new sixteen-page booklet includes photographs and conversations with Ross, Junius Paul, Garcia and Butterss.
