About this release
Voodoocuts brings a jazz-leaning approach to two familiar hip-hop recordings for Juice On Wax. That Cool Loop reworks Us3’s Cantaloop with samba-inflected percussion, bright horn lines and a lighter rhythmic swing, keeping the rap vocal in the foreground. Jazzaround takes a House Of Pain recording in another direction, setting its forceful delivery against piano chords and organic percussion. The contrast between the vocals and their new surroundings gives both edits their playful character. Presented together on seven-inch vinyl, the two sides connect recognisable hooks with Voodoocuts’ interest in Latin rhythms, funk and jazz textures.
