About this release
George Allison’s Gypsy Woman and War Is Ugly return together on Jamwax. The former Mad Lads singer brings his falsetto to Curtis Mayfield’s Gypsy Woman, paired with his own composition War Is Ugly on the reverse.
Both songs first appeared on Allison’s 1984 album So Unusual. His version of Gypsy Woman draws on a song he sang as a schoolboy, while War Is Ugly responds to Jamaica’s political violence with a call to put down arms.
