About this release
Skee Mask moves between broken rhythms, straight techno and atmospheric electronics on 2012, the opening release in Ilian Tape’s Skee series. Kordman Return uses loose break sampling and swing, while Palo Alto turns towards a firmer four-to-the-floor pattern and broad synthesizer textures. Fjorward Flex Dub carries the rhythmic emphasis into a rolling, drum-led arrangement, with restrained melodic details around its percussion. Glass Museum closes in a more abstract space, allowing jazz-inflected rhythmic fragments to dissolve into ambience. The EP connects its contrasting approaches through detailed drum programming, dub-influenced depth and a balance between dancefloor momentum and quieter textural development.
