About this release
Discos Panorama returns to Colombia for PAN016, pairing Andrés Landero Y Su Conjunto’s “La Pava Congona” with Afrosound’s version of “Soul Makossa”. The 7" brings a cumbia classic into conversation with a Colombian interpretation of one of Afro-funk’s best-known compositions.
Landero’s accordion leads a rolling rhythm and call-and-response phrases, carrying the sabanero swing associated with his cumbia recordings. On the reverse, Afrosound recast Manu Dibango’s “Soul Makossa” with fuzz guitar, tropical percussion and psychedelic touches. The pairing draws out the contrast between Landero’s accordion-led ensemble and Afrosound’s amplified textures, bringing two distinct approaches to Colombian dance music together. Issued by Panorama in a label-branded sleeve.
