About this release
Charles Kynard’s Woga was recorded in Los Angeles for Mainstream Records in 1972, with Bob Shad producing and Richard Fritz arranging and conducting. Kynard’s Hammond organ leads a band including Chuck Rainey, Paul Humphrey, Arthur Adams and George Bohanon, bringing a strong funk emphasis to the jazz arrangements. Covers including ‘Little Ghetto Boy’ and ‘Rock Steady’ sit alongside the extended ‘Slop Jar’. This Wewantsounds edition adds ‘Smiling Faces Sometimes’, remasters the audio at Colorsound Studio in Paris and restores the original gatefold artwork with session photographs. A two-page insert contains new liner notes by Kevin Le Gendre.
