About this release
Dames Brown's debut album brings Athena Johnson, Teresa Marbury and LaRae Starr together with their late mentor and producer Amp Fiddler. Recorded at his Detroit home studio, Take Me As I Am combines the trio's gospel-rooted harmonies with house, funk and soul arrangements. Andrés joins What Would You Do?, Waajeed appears on Glory and Eddie Fowlkes contributes to Do It, extending the record's connection to the city's musicians. Across fourteen tracks, the vocals remain central as the rhythms shift around them. Presented by Amp Fiddler and released through Defected, the double LP is both a collaborative album and a tribute.
