About this release
Ebo Taylor’s self-titled 1977 album brings his highlife background into close contact with funk, soul and jazz. Recorded for Essiebons after years of work as a guitarist, arranger and bandleader, it pairs Fante-rooted rhythms with electric grooves and richly layered horns. Saana, Ntsir A and Bra fill the first side, while Ohye Atar Gyan, Heaven and Amponsah complete the six-track programme. The arrangements show Taylor’s ability to give rhythmic drive and melody equal weight. Strut’s reissue features audio restored and remastered by The Carvery and See Why Audio, with new liner notes including an interview with his son, Henry Taylor.
