About this release
Often called the Rockin’ Chair album, Howlin’ Wolf’s self-titled collection brings together recordings originally issued as singles around the turn of the 1960s. The 1962 Chess album includes The Red Rooster, Spoonful, Back Door Man and Wang-Dang-Doodle, with Wolf’s gravelly voice at the centre of its electric Chicago blues sound. Shake For Me opens the sequence, while Going Down Slow and Tell Me offer contrasting moods on the second side. This DOL edition expands the original programme with five bonus tracks, including Don’t Mess With My Baby, Goin’ Back Home and Mama’s Baby.
Format: 180g LP, gatefold sleeve
