About this release
Recorded in Addis Ababa in July 1976, Stereo Instrumental Music documents Ibex Band’s blend of Ethiopian melodies, heavy basslines and inventive guitar playing. Giovanni Rico and Selam Woldemariam arranged and produced the sessions, with keyboards, drums, saxophones, flutes and congas completing the ensemble. Karl-Gustav Lundgren engineered the first eight tracks, followed by four further recordings made by the band. These instrumental performances capture a group whose work also supported singers including Mahmoud Ahmed and Aster Aweke. Released by Muzikawi under licence from Rico and Woldemariam, the 12-track collection appears on black double vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
