About this release
Magic Number is the recording project of bassist, composer and engineer Ross Hillard. Badly Written Songs brings live instrumentation and vocal performances into arrangements that move between house, downtempo and jazz-influenced songwriting. Sophia Marshall sings on Good Morning Sunshine, Better and Loving You, with themes ranging from renewed optimism to lost love and the distractions of everyday technology. Jazz-inspired drums and live horns help shape the album's sound, reflecting Hillard's background in recording and orchestral composition. The nine-track vinyl programme runs from Good Morning Sunshine to Exit, presented by Atjazz Record Company in a gatefold sleeve.
