About this release
Momoko is the debut solo album from producer, songwriter, drummer and vocalist Momoko Gill, following Clay, her collaboration with Matthew Herbert. Recorded at Total Refreshment Centre, the album moves between the jazz groove of No Others, the layered vocal harmonies of Heavy and the darker sound of Shadowboxing. Test A Small Area takes an instrumental turn, while When Palestine Is Free brings together a 50-person choir including Shabaka Hutchings, Soweto Kinch, Alabaster DePlume and Coby Sey. Gill produced the record herself, with Herbert mixing and Alex Gordon mastering at Abbey Road, bringing her drumming, songwriting and voice into one personal set.
