About this release
Panorama pairs two recordings from South African singer Mpharanyana, born Jacob Radebe, whose work in the 1970s connected soul, disco, mbaqanga and funk. Recording with The Cannibals and The Peddlers, and working alongside musicians including Ray Phiri, he developed a dance music sound rooted in those overlapping traditions. “Get Down” with The Cannibals combines modern soul, boogie and disco, led by a tight band groove and memorable hooks. The Peddlers back him on the reverse for “Disco”, a funkier turn through the same musical world. The two recordings bring different sides of his work together on a Panorama 7-inch.
