About this release
Peggy O’Keefe’s Cubano Chant pairs two recordings from her Glasgow period on a Panorama 7-inch. The Australian-born pianist became resident at the Chevalier Casino in 1962, a six-month engagement that grew into six years. Her 1966 Mood Chevalier album captured favourites from the band’s repertoire, including this version of Cubano Chant, a tune associated with Art Blakey and the jazz-dance floor. O Morro appears on the reverse, placing another side of the ensemble’s approach alongside the title cut. The two selections bring O’Keefe’s piano-led sound from a Glasgow residency into Panorama’s series of compact jazz and funk reissues.
