About this release
Oracy brings Ade Olatunji's spoken poetry together with The Positive Force's spiritual jazz, free jazz and fusion. Originally released in Detroit in 1977, the album takes its name from the idea of oral literacy, a term Olatunji encountered during a visit to Nigeria. His words run through nine pieces, from The African In Winter and Praise Song to Afrika Needs You and Guerilla Warfare. The relationship between poetry and music places the voice at the centre of the record. Rain & Shine's licensed, remastered LP reissue includes a fold-out insert of Olatunji's poetry, with insert design by David Broome.
