About this release
Sweet Rebels brings together eight tracks from Algeria’s pop-raï scene of the 1980s and early 1990s, selected in Paris by Cheb Gero. Originally issued on cassette by Oriental Music Production, the recordings capture a shift from traditional raï towards electronic beats and funk-influenced arrangements. The selection includes Cheb Zahouani, Chaba Zohra, Abderrahmane Djalti and other singers from the period, with solos and duets reflecting the scene’s range. Newly remastered for this Wewantsounds release, the black vinyl LP includes a two-page insert with French and English liner notes by Rabah Mezouane.
Format: Black vinyl LP; remastered; two-page liner-note insert
