About this release
Justin Robertson and Matthew Shaw create an imagined soundtrack for MineralTail, the mythical band at the centre of Robertson’s novel. Robertson’s electronic production meets the work of composer and Stone Club co-founder Shaw in music that moves through krautrock, strange ambience and loose grooves. Hypnotic electronics, swirling melodies and recurring riffs give shape to the book’s fictional musical world. The three-part Emperor’s Lapdog sequence sits among longer pieces and brief interludes, with the album’s rhythms connecting its more expansive passages. Released on Robertson’s Solitary Cyclist label, it accompanies the novel’s story of invention and music.
