Major Keys brings three Dave Brubeck Quartet recordings together on a remastered twelve-inch. Paul Desmond’s Take Five places its familiar saxophone melody within a five-beat metre, performed by Desmond, Brubeck, drummer Joe Morello and bassist Eugene Wright. Blue Rondo A La Turk, also taken from the 1959 Time Out album, offers another approach to irregular rhythm on the reverse. Carmen McRae’s 1962 vocal interpretation of Take Five completes the selection, allowing the composition to be heard in a different setting. Pressed on 180g vinyl, the release pairs two instrumental performances with the later vocal version.
