Numero’s I’m Not Your Toy opens a window onto the home recordings of Peter Barclay, a self-taught musician working in early-1990s Oakland. His two little-heard albums, Acceptance from 1990 and What Kind Of World from 1992, brought a personal outlook to synth-pop and soul. This nine-track collection includes Acceptance Is The Key, You Are Loved and Believe In Yourself, alongside single edits of What Kind Of World and O Afrika. Barclay’s music reached only a small circle during his lifetime; this vinyl release brings those independent recordings to a wider audience, with their individual character at the centre.
