New Flava Volume 1 grew out of Austin Aggrey-Odoom's involvement with London's gospel community in 1995. Bringing together young singers he encountered through local churches, he set out to connect Christian songwriting with the production language of contemporary US R&B and hip hop.

Producer Paul Cumberbatch supplies the musical foundation, with Tyrone Henry, Marissa Anglin, Charlene Reid and John Gibbons among the voices featured. The result documents a meeting of underground UK soul talent and gospel, shaped by the R&B records its makers loved. This NBN Archives double LP brings the thirteen-song collection to vinyl.
