About this release
Midnight Marauders finds A Tribe Called Quest balancing intricate sample-based production with the conversational interplay of Q-Tip and Phife Dawg. Their third album, originally released in 1993, moves through jazz-inflected loops, rounded bass and crisp drums, with the recurring tour-guide voice linking the sequence. Award Tour and Electric Relaxation sit alongside the more reflective 8 Million Stories, while Oh My God brings a sharper burst of energy. The second side continues through Keep It Rollin’, The Chase, Part II and Lyrics To Go before God Lives Through closes the record. The detailed arrangements leave plenty of space for the group’s humour and wordplay.
