About this release
Ghanaian vocalist and djembe drummer Afla Sackey brings his band Afrik Bawantu to Wah Wah 45s with ‘Destination’. Traditional Ghanaian rhythms meet Afrobeat, funk and highlife influences across eight tracks, carried by percussion, animated horns and substantial bass lines. ‘Togetherness’ calls for unity, while ‘Mind Your Business’, ‘Be Careful’ and ‘It’s Not Easy’ reflect on personal choices and everyday experience. Sackey wrote, arranged and produced the album, recorded at Blue Studios, with guitar from Oscar Jerome among the ensemble contributions. Tokio Aoyama provides the cover artwork for the LP, with sleeve design by Jake Holloway.
