About this release
Modern Music brings Al Massrieen's approach to Egyptian pop into focus, with Hany Shenouda's arrangements moving between disco, funk, psychedelic rock and jazz influences. The group combined Arabic vocals and melodies with contemporary band instrumentation, creating songs that vary considerably in mood and rhythm. Sah leans towards disco, Horreya draws on rock, and Ebda’ Men Gedid adds a jazz-inflected dimension to the selection. Habibi Funk's licensed release presents eleven tracks on vinyl, with booklet material documenting the band through interviews, photographs and liner notes. The LP programme is distinct from the longer CD and digital selection.
