About this release
AnkAnum’s ‘Song Of The Motherland’ combines dub poetry with Nyabinghi drumming, percussion and a folk-rooted Jamaican vocal approach. Originally released in 1985 under the name Anum Iyapo, the album places spoken and sung expression within arrangements that also include didgeridoo, bass and wind instruments. ‘Chant Liberation’, ‘Bread Of Sorrow’ and ‘African Man’ lead towards the title track, with ‘Last Blues’ and ‘Ovahstanding’ among the second side’s pieces. Native Rebel Recordings presents the nine-track album in a remastered vinyl edition, with new cover artwork and a printed inner sleeve. The record keeps its focus on voice, rhythm and spiritual expression.
