About this release
Annie and the Caldwells bring gospel singing and a disco-soul rhythm section together on Can’t Lose My (Soul). Based in West Point, Mississippi, the family group is led by singer Annie Caldwell and guitarist Willie Joe Caldwell Sr., with daughters Deborah and Anjessica, goddaughter Toni Rivers and sons Willie Jr. and Abel Aquirius completing the band. The six-song album moves from the concise opening “Wrong” into the extended title song, then through “I Made It” and “Don’t You Hear Me Calling”. “I’m Going To Rise” and “Dear Lord” close a programme grounded in the family’s shared vocal and instrumental language.
