About this release
Xylem Tube followed Aphex Twin’s Digeridoo EP on R&S Records in 1992, developing Richard D. James’ early experiments with melody, distortion and fractured rhythm. Polynomial-C opens with spiralling arpeggios and breakbeats, followed by Tamphex in its Headphuq Mix. The reverse pairs Phlange Phace with Dodeccaheedron, where brooding synthesisers and broken beats give the closing track a darker character. Across four pieces, the EP links the physical energy of early rave with the less predictable forms James was beginning to explore. This R&S reissue presents the original four-track sequence on a single 12-inch, with two cuts on each side.
