About this release
Arjuna Oakes and John Psathas bring Greek folk instrumentation into conversation with modern jazz on Sierra. Composed in New Zealand and recorded live over two days at Sierra Studios in Athens, the EP features Oakes on vocals and piano with drummer Sam Notman, ney player Harris Lambrakis, oud player Kyriakos Tapakis, percussionist Vagelis Karipis and bassist Dimitris Tsekouras. George Kariotis engineered and mixed the sessions. The five tracks move between the energy of Run and Craving The World and the more reflective Until You, with Oakes' singing exploring isolation, uncertainty and hopes for the future.
