About this release
Asha Puthli's The Devil Is Loose brings her airy vocal style into a nine-track mixture of disco, soul and funk. Originally released in 1976, the album includes Space Talk, whose extended rhythmic feel helped it travel through New York's Loft scene and later rare-groove circles. Puthli's voice remains the link between the buoyant Flying Fish, the title song and the more reflective moments elsewhere in the programme. The arrangements draw on an artist whose work had already crossed jazz, pop and rock settings, giving the album a varied character. This MRBLP222NB edition is pressed on black vinyl.
