About this release
Big Crown Vaults Vol. 4 gathers thirteen recordings made by Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band between 2008 and 2023. The Hamburg group brings steel pans and heavy drums to a selection ranging from Bob James’s “Nautilus” and Khruangbin’s “Maria También” to Royce da 5’9”’s J Dilla-produced “Let’s Grow”. “PIMP (Version)” gives their earlier recording a dub treatment with melodica and tape echo, while “Kaiso Noir” is the collection’s original composition. A cover of the Jackson 5 broadens the programme, with “Giana Sisters” closing the second side. This Big Crown edition is pressed on blue-smoke coloured vinyl.
