About this release
Banda Maje’s Costa Sud draws on the landscapes and musical traditions of southern Italy, with composer and keyboardist Peppe Maiellano leading a group of musicians from Salerno and Naples. Neapolitan funk and Italian film-score colours form the core, widened by disco, Afrobeat and Brazilian rhythms. Maiellano sings the band’s version of Peppino di Capri’s Mo…, while their reworking of Tonico 70’s Jet Lag features trumpet from Gianfranco Campagnoli. The second side brings samba-funk, television-theme synth textures and an homage to Piero Piccioni through Black Glamour Girl. Warm vocal harmonies and jazz-funk arrangements carry the album between coastal atmosphere and rhythmic movement.
