About this release
Mos Def and Talib Kweli's 1998 debut as Black Star brings the two Brooklyn MCs together over jazz-inflected beats and sharply focused lyricism. Released by Rawkus, the album moves through questions of race, identity and struggle, with the interplay between the two voices at its centre. Hi-Tek, Da Beatminerz and J. Rawls are among the producers shaping its sound, while Common joins the duo on “Respiration” and Vinia Mojica appears on “K.O.S. (Determination)”. This picture-disc edition presents the thirteen-track album on two-tone black star print vinyl, housed in a matte sleeve with a fold-out insert.
