About this release
Blair's Nightlife / Virgo Princess pairs two recordings from Barney 'Blair' Perry, the guitarist who played on The Blackbyrds' first two albums. Nightlife, released in 1978, combines soul vocals with synthesizers, funk rhythm and Perry's guitar playing in a relaxed boogie setting. Virgo Princess turns towards fusion on the reverse, with sweeping strings and a more spacious instrumental feel. Spaziale Recordings' licensed, remastered reissue brings the two sides together on twelve-inch vinyl, preserving the original pairing. The contrast between the vocal groove and the fusion-led second side shows two approaches within Perry's late-1970s sound.
