About this release
Bobbi Humphrey places her flute at the centre of the Mizell brothers’ soul and funk arrangements on Blacks and Blues. Larry Mizell’s compositions and production bring together keyboards, synthesisers, guitar and interlocking rhythms, leaving space for Humphrey’s melodic playing. The six-track album includes ‘Chicago, Damn’ and ‘Harlem River Drive’, with Humphrey also singing on ‘Just a Love Child’ and ‘Baby’s Gone’. The title track and ‘Jasper Country Man’ complete the programme. This Blue Note LP presents three tracks on each side, moving between extended grooves and the album’s more vocal-led moments.
