About this release
Bosq and Kaleta’s first full-length collaboration draws together Afro funk, highlife, juju, soukous and disco across twelve songs. Kaleta, whose background includes Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 and King Sunny Ade’s African Beats, sings in Yoruba, Goun, French, English and Fon. Bosq builds the arrangements around live horns, guitar, percussion and keyboards, combining acoustic playing with electronic drums and synthesizers. Musicians from Colombia, Brooklyn, Benin and Nigeria contribute to an album shaped by the pair’s long-running partnership. From the title track to closing number ‘Robojiyan’, the emphasis is on interlocking rhythms, vocal chants and the meeting of West African traditions with contemporary dancefloor production.
