About this release
Shinichi Kobayashi gives Bot1500's The Black Sea a spacious, inward-looking character. Pads and chords sit around crisp broken rhythms, with dub shaping the way melody, silence and echo move through the arrangements. The record follows Surreal, his 2022 album for Lith Dolina, and develops the more minimal approach heard in his self-released work. Most of the pieces were written at 140 BPM, though their open structures leave room for a much calmer feel; closing track White Flocks slows to 120 BPM. Abstract Springs and Shadows establish the balance between rhythmic detail and restraint that runs through the album.
