Cantoma - First Nothing (Ltd. 250 Copies)

Shining-bright Balearic label Highwood Recordings remark that it's been a while since any music by Cantoma (Phil Mison) has hit their shelves; it's been a full four years since 2020's Into Daylight, though in which time the artist has also laid down two singles, 'Alive' and 'Back Into Daylight', which nonetheless came off the back of the aforementioned record. First Nothing, by contrast, is an entirely new affair, and after its full release in September 2024 comes two new ice-cold sound-shakings by remixer Noche. Here the artist attacks the title track with a blissfully whammied chug, with tremolo'ing Rhodeses on the sixteenths and minim-length breath-pads on the ones. The resident producer brings an electric cabana's breeze on the B-side's ambient remix, powering an otherwise rustic outhouse with minimalist guitar counterpoints run through some soft ampage.
