About this release
Cantrips’ From A Darebin Cave centres on Patrick Ryan’s nylon-string guitar and voice, recorded live over two days with a seven-piece band. Musicians from Surprise Chef, Don Glori and Karate Boogaloo contribute to arrangements that combine drums, percussion, double bass and pedal steel with two synthesizer players emulating a string quartet. The songs draw on late-1960s and early-1970s folk and psychedelic pop, with influences including Nick Drake, Terry Callier and Donovan. Inspired by the Darebin Parklands around Dune Castle’s studio, Ryan explores isolation, regret and joy across eight tracks. This is the full-band album on black vinyl.
