About this release
DIG brings Captain Planet’s dancefloor approach into focus through samples, reworked recordings and vocal contributions drawn from several musical traditions. The Los Angeles producer builds the album around strong bass and drums, connecting Latin and Caribbean rhythms with hip-hop, dancehall and electronic funk. Tony’s House revisits material by Tony Allen, while the record also features Erol Josue, Trio Mocoto, De Mar y Rio, Azuka Moweta, DRM and Santrofi. Towards the close, Thirst No More incorporates nature recordings made by Greenpeace workers, before longtime collaborator Chico Mann joins Mi Calor. It is a rhythm-led album with a gentler closing stretch.
